ART IN THE KITCHEN - TEFAF 2020 AS AN INSPIRATION SOURCE FOR KITCHEN ART

Last March, the world's leading art fair took place: TEFAF, the international event for visual arts, antiques and design. Traditionally, I will travel to the MECC in Maastricht to visit one of the preview days. I've been looking forward to it for weeks! In preparation for this blog I determined the theme "Art in the Kitchen", with which I wink at Salon Des Arts, an art exhibition that now takes place at SieMatic at the Vondelpark. See my kitchen gems here!

Plates and dishes
Decorative plates and dishes are an indispensable part of the kitchen, but these pieces are better left untouched…. What about this beautiful hand-painted plate? I have always had a love for pottery painted in blue. So this beauty "A Dish with a Dragon" quickly caught the eye!
I also find this terracotta "Greek Bilingual eye-cup" a very special piece of kitchen art.
And a little later I spotted another beautiful object in this category, made of pieces of broken crockery, where the glue is visible in gilded form.

Knifes and spoons
Do you also still have your first silver place setting in the kitchen drawer? Or do you remember buying a complete cutlery set? Whenever I am in a nice home furnishing store, I look out for special cutlery. And of course I keep a close eye on the social media channels of stylish 'cutlery' brands.
At TEFAF, I spotted very special cutlery. However, these were objects, which I think deserve a place outside the cutlery: -) For example the "Horse-head dagger" from the seventeenth century and the silver spoon "Ladl" with ivory handle from 1900.

Furniture and decoration
Every year, the interior design section at TEFAF attracts many enthusiasts and collectors. As an interior lover, I enjoyed the Bridge Direction Armchair by Jean Prouvé from the 50ies in original cognac leather, as well as the stand of art gallery Friedman Benda, in which the Arca Desk by the Italian 'design pioneer' Gaetano Pesce was perfectly presented.
In between, I also saw some nice decorative pieces, such as a very small, elegant bronze statue "Acrobat sitting on a ladder", an indigenous wooden statue, a brightly colored Light House and an equally brightly colored set of vases. And while at home, I can still enjoy the view on this Cabinet Klimt by Ingrid Donat.
